Rota worked in Peru the last seven years before moving to Guatemala in the past few months. She works for CBM, an international program that works for people with disabilities. Over time, Rota quickly realized when families have a child born with a disability, it’s looked on as a curse or a punishment by god. But living a life with a disability is not easy.
“You see them hidden, in their beds, doing nothing, losing their lives,” Rota said. She worked in the jungle area all seven years while in Peru.
“The children with disabilities in those areas, they have no access to a wheelchair. They just hold on and you meet them, laying in their bed, looking to the ceiling because they cant move around,” Rota said.
