Gustavo Vasquez

Gustavo Vasquez works at the wheelchair factory in Antigua, Guatemala building chairs for disabled individuals like himself. Vasquez has been in a wheelchair for 14 years following a medical operation where he claims the doctor made a mistake.

“Since that time I haven’t been able to walk,” Vasquez said.

Vasquez assembles the sides of the wheelchairs at the factory. “There’s satisfaction knowing it’s useful for other people,” he says.

Being an individual with a disability and working at the same time isn’t easy, but Vasquez says he feels blessed to be able to do it. “You need inside strength to do that (to go outside and work), but I think God gives us all the same opportunity,” Vasquez says.
